Water Damage in Dana Point.

Neighbors share a lot in common and that can be comforting in time of need.  Recently, SERVPRO Yorba Linda/ Brea encountered a water damage restoration opportunity where two neighbors living in Dana Point (Mr. Jones and Mr. Smith) even shared water damage in common.  Not so comforting.

Jones and Smith lived in separate condos that had a single common wall and a leaking pipe had been building a pool of standing water in the empty space within that common wall.   The moisture had seeped into both condo units, walls, floor, cabinets – everything.  While Jones owned the condo he was living in, Smith was renting from an out-of-state landlord. 

Our field technician had completed the assessment and the estimate and presented it to both neighbors.  While Jones was happy to pay his portion of the bill, Smith was not, and time was critical.  If we waited too long, a minor green mold problem that we’d uncovered could quickly become a more dangerous black mold situation.  We reached out to present the situation to the landlord who was insured through State Farm.  His policy did not cover mold.

SERVPRO Yorba Linda/ Brea always has our customers’ best interest in mind.  We offered the landlord our ‘uninsured’ rate to complete the work.  While it still costs us the same in labor and supplies to do our work, we’re willing to make less on work like this to ensure our customers are receiving the best care available.

It was now time for us to execute our work plan.  We completely contained both areas,  removed kitchens, cabinets and countertops and exposed the moist studs from the floor and up about two feet.  With the condos both ready, we proceeded to bring our dryers and dehumidifiers in.  Finally, we scrubbed out all the green mold.  Both condos were now ready for construction teams to come in and make the final repairs.  Both customers were happy with our work and we were satisfied that we’d done our very best for these two neighbors.
