Toilet Overflow Causes Water Damage Throughout Entire Home

11/6/2015 (Permalink)

As if a toilet overflow is not bad enough, a toilet overflow that floods the entire house is any homeowner’s worst nightmare. With sewage, the amount of home removal is high because with sewage comes bacteria like E. coli. At SERVPRO of Yorba Linda/Brea, we take every step to ensure your home is free of danger and safe from bacteria. We will go into your home, remove all contaminated furniture, and thoroughly clean your house so you don’t have to deal with the repercussions of your sewage leak.

A homeowner in Brea contacted us recently after a toilet overflow flooded her entire home—and we mean her entire home. She called her plumber to fix the toilet, and he told her she needed to immediately call SERVPRO of Yorba Linda/Brea. As soon as we received the call, Project Manager Jonathan Arcila was on his way to the home.

Upon his initial inspection, he found the kitchen, living room, dining room, hallway bathroom as well as all bedrooms and closets had been affected. He knew it would be a big task, but also knew he had the best crew to handle it. He called our technicians out to the home as soon as possible. During these sewage leaks, the homeowner has to vacate the premises, so we knew time was of the essence so the homeowner could get back into the home as soon as possible.

Before we started, we performed a test for asbestos and it came back positive. After we performed an asbestos abatement, we got to work. Our technicians removed four feet of drywall in all the rooms as well as all flooring. Since the damage was so extensive, the homeowner considered asking us to remove all the drywall so it could be replaced at the same time with a better quality wall.

Overall, though the damage was extensive, the homeowner was thrilled with our work. She was glad her plumber had recommended the best water damage removal company in the area and knew she would be calling again if anything else were to happen!
