Roof Leak Water Damage Almost Ruins Sale of Corona Home

10/21/2015 (Permalink)

There are infinite amounts of unfortunate times for water to start leaking in your home, but arguably one of the worst times is as you are trying to sell it. In Southern California, the real estate market is hot—but the weather is hotter. Especially this summer, we have had record high heat and low rainfall. That means when it rains, it pours, and suddenly the holes in everyone’s roofs start to show themselves. This means water leaks through the roofs and into the ceilings of the rooms below, and when you’re trying to sell your house, this is the most inopportune time to find this out.

One home in Corona experienced this recently. The home was about to close Escrow when the current owner noticed a small water stain in one of the ceilings. The owner called their realtor, who recommended he call SERVPRO of Yorba Linda/Brea to get a free inspection and make sure it was nothing serious. After receiving the call, we sent our Project Manager, Chris Trejo, out to the home. As Chris performed his inspection, he found that it was more than just a minor water stain. The water damage was all the way through the garage ceiling and walls.

After receiving approval from the homeowner, Chris called out our technicians, who immediately got to work. The technicians dried everything they could in place and then removed some drywall and ceiling in the garage. From there, we placed equipment to dry everything completely and eliminate the threat of mold.

The homeowner was so happy with our work. More than anything, he appreciated our complete honesty and our quick response. At SERVPRO of Yorba Linda/Brea, we know the importance of working quickly with water damage, so we love to hear these positive comments to reinforce our practice. The homeowner promised to call again if he had any issues and gave us a great score on our final survey.
