Lakewood Homeowners Try to Fix Water Damage on Own

7/20/2015 (Permalink)

When it comes to water damage, hiring a professional to get the job done is imperative. If the damage is not removed properly, mold is likely to grow and can cause health problems for the homeowners. This especially becomes a problem if any infants or elderly persons are living in the home.

One homeowner in Lakewood recently had water damage from a slab leak. Seeing as she was 90 years old, she called her son to come over and take care of the damage. He tore up some of the carpet and padding, and in the process found that there was black mold underneath the carpet. Upon this discovery, he threw some bleach on it to kill the bacteria. But he knew he was a little over his head, so he decided to call a professional.

He searched on Google for the best restoration company in the area and found that SERVPRO of Yorba Linda/Brea was the best in the business. He gave us a call and we sent out our Project Manager, Chris Trejo, to the job. Chris did the initial inspection and set up some drying equipment to keep the water damage and mold contained, and then gave a call to our team of expert technicians to come out to the home.

As soon as our technicians showed, they got to work. They found water that had completely soaked the carpet, padding and drywall. Before removing any drywall, we tested for asbestos. When the test came back positive, we performed an asbestos abatement before removing any drywall. From there, we removed all the areas that had been affected by mold and set up air scrubbers to make sure the air was clean.

The homeowner and her son were so happy with the work we performed. He was glad we were able to fix every area that he wasn’t. He gave us a great score on our survey and promised to call again if necessary.
