Mother’s Day Mold in Packed Home

Over time, we all tend to accumulate a lot of “things.” Whether those things refer to furniture, collections, pictures, boxes, etc., our houses can get fuller as we get older. Sometimes, our homes get too full to be safe. When boxes and stacks of magazines start blocking walls and doors, it is a safety hazard for you, the homeowner, but it makes things more difficult if something dangerous were to happen in the home.

For one homeowner in Laguna Hills, a packed home created mold damage that became difficult to remove. The elderly couple did not like to throw away anything that came with a great memory, so instead they had filled their home with them. Over time, there were so many objects in their home that it became difficult for them to maneuver their electric walkers.

They had a plumber out one day checking on a pipe, and the plumber found mold in their walls. The couple had a cat that was currently undergoing chemotherapy, so when they found out there was mold, they knew the health of themselves and their cat could be in danger. The plumber told them to call a mold remediation company to get the job taken care of.

She found SERVPRO of Yorba Linda/Brea from their insurance company and gave us a call. We made it out to the home within 90 minutes. We told the couple that we needed to start work immediately, but since it was the weekend of Mother’s Day, the couple preferred we come back on Monday.

When we got back on Monday and moved some boxes out of the way, we noticed water damage in addition to the mold. The couple had not noticed that there was so much mold and water damage because the home had been so full of storage boxes. We worked to help them remove the boxes from their home so we could get the job done, then we performed a mold remediation on the home to ensure the safety of the owners.

The couple was so pleased with how quickly we responded and how great our work was. We were able to work quickly and restore the air quality of the home, making sure both the couple and the cat were safe from the mold.
