Homeowner Refuses Drywall Removal after Water Damage

2/3/2016 (Permalink)

At SERVPRO of Yorba Linda/Brea, we do everything in our power to keep your house as destruction-free as possible. We are never going to remove parts of your home without knowing for sure that they have to be removed. We do what we can to not remove anything, but most times it’s not possible to dry everything in place. If something is too saturated with water, we have to remove it for the safety of you and your home. If we don’t, you could end up with serious mold growth, and that’s never good.

A homeowner in Carson recently reached out to us wanting to know if we could help him with some damage in his kitchen. He had just had a plumber out that told him he had a slab leak and some extensive water damage that needed to be fixed. The plumber referred him to SERVPRO of Yorba Linda/Brea, but the homeowner’s insurance agency had insisted that nothing be removed or demoed in the process.

He gave us a call to see if we could do the job. Our Project Manager, Jonathan Arcila, was the first to make it out to the home. He found that more than the kitchen had been affected; the dining room and pantry were in danger as well. He took the homeowner’s request to heart, but knew it would be a difficult job to do without any demo. He called our Crew Chief and technicians out to the scene to get the job started.

We set up multiple air movers and dehumidifiers to get everything dried, and from there it’s nothing more than a waiting game. There were a few pieces of drywall that were completely saturated, but the homeowner stuck firm to his no-demo rule. Because of this, the home took much longer to dry out than others and can still be a threat in the future.

That said, the homeowner was so happy with our work. He told us he was incredibly pleased with the efficiency of our work and gave us a perfect score on our survey!
