When drying out a home that's had water damage, our first preference is to dry in place. That's not always possible though, depending on the extent of the water damage. When it isn't, we perform a partial drywall demolition in order to expose wall or ceiling studs (as in this photo).
This is a critical step because unless this is done, the moisture within the wall or above the ceiling remains trapped. This makes the perfect environment for mold growth. On the other hand, drywall demo ultimately will limit the damage to the structure, and lower the long-term costs of restoration.
