Water Damage leads to Mold Damage in Brea Home

12/14/2015 (Permalink)

We discuss it often, but can’t stress the importance enough: water damage needs to be removed as soon as you notice it. And removal of water damage does not mean cleaning it up with a towel or a mop; it means hiring a professional to come out to your home and physically remove all the water and any damage it may have caused to surrounding drywall or flooring. If not, your home could experience mold growth. This mold can cause health effects. As the spores grow and release into the air, you unknowingly breathe them in.

Thankfully, at SERVPRO of Yorba Linda/Brea, we know how to handle all water damage safely so there is no resulting mold. A homeowner in Brea recently called us after they found a pipe burst in their kitchen. They had initially called their plumber, who fixed the pipe but knew a mop would not be able to clean this mess. He told the homeowner to call SERVPRO of Yorba Linda/Brea.

Trusting his plumber, he made the call immediately. Upon receiving the call, we sent our Project Manager, Edgar Arcila, to the home. He took a look around the house and discovered that, while this would definitely be a job for SERVPRO of Yorba Linda/Brea, the job was much more severe than the homeowner originally thought. Before the pipe burst, there had been a small leak for a while. This small leak had gone untreated, so as a result of the water damage, mold had started to grow.

Edgar called our technicians out to the scene to begin the removal. We removed drywall under the sink and scrubbing where the mold had grown. From there, we sprayed anti-microbial to ensure the mold did not grow back. Finally, we set up drying equipment and air scrubbers to remove moisture and mold spores from the air.

The homeowner was so happy with our work! He promised he would be giving us a call again as soon as he noticed any water damage.
