4 Tips for Handling a Water Damaged Ceiling

11/13/2015 (Permalink)

It starts with a drip. Then maybe a drop. Then little color rings start to form in your ceiling. From there, it spreads. Maybe it gets to the point where your ceiling actually starts to sag or bubble. What does this mean? Water damage, of course. Whether it’s from a roof leak or a pipe leak, ceiling water damage is common in many homes. Thankfully, SERVPRO of Yorba Linda/Brea is ready to help you manage water damage that may have occurred in your home.

Here are a few tips on how to handle your water-damaged ceiling:

1. Call the Pros: We are here at SERVPRO of Yorba Linda/Brea. Give us a call at any hour of the day, any day of the year and we will send someone out as soon as possible. We know that the removal of water damage is very timely, as no one wants mold on top of water damage. Make sure you call your professional immediately so we can send someone out right away.

2. Are You Safe? First things first, if you feel like you or your family might not be completely safe in the house, get out. If you think mold might be a factor or you can’t stay in your house because the structure seems unstable, stay with a friend or neighbor until we can get someone to the house.

3. Remove Damaged Furniture: Assuming you’re safe, take inventory of your home. If you notice any of your furniture is saturated with water, whether that is in the attic or beneath the damage ceiling, get it out of the house and into a storage pod. We can help dry it out, but keeping it in the house could just create more problems in the future.

4. Wait: We know it’s not exciting, but wait for us to get there to take care of the rest. Chances are, we will be there very shortly to get all the damage removed. Don’t try to dry or remove it yourself.

At SERVPRO of Yorba Linda/Brea, we want to keep your home happy. Any questions? Give us a call today.
