Huntington Beach Slab Leak leads to Water Damage

5/5/2015 (Permalink)

Sometimes when a plumber comes in to fix one pipe, they end up finding much more damage than initially intended. When a leak is in the wall, it takes some time for the leak to be noticed. By the time the homeowner realizes there is a problem, often the damage has already been done. Water damage within walls can lead to mold, as there is little air that gets to the damage.

For one homeowner in Huntington Beach, he found water leaking up through the floor. When he found the soggy carpets in his family room, he called a plumber immediately. The plumber came out to do an initial inspection and found the slab leak. Unfortunately, the plumber also found a significant amount of water damage in the floor. He recommended the homeowner call SERVPRO of Yorba Linda/Brea to undergo an immediate water damage removal.

We got the call and sent out our Production Manager, Cesar Arcila, to the home. He investigated the home and found all the water damage beneath the floors. He lifted some carpet and set up fans to air out the floors while he waited for our technicians to arrive. When we got there, we immediately started working.

We ended up having to remove both carpet and padding in the family room, bar, and hallway as well as the vinyl flooring in the kitchen. Before we started any removal, we did an asbestos test to make sure the home would be safe for demolition. The tests came back positive in the kitchen, so we had to do a quick asbestos abatement before removing the vinyl.

Thankfully, we were able to get the job done safely and efficiently. The homeowner was so pleased with our work and assured us they would use our services in the future if necessary!
