Huntington Beach Apartments Affected by Sink Leak

5/1/2015 (Permalink)

Apartments are tricky when it comes to water damage. Oftentimes, if one apartment is affected, the surrounding apartments will be as well. If a pipe breaks in a shared wall, both apartments will flood. If a pipe breaks in the floor, the apartment below will have to deal with water damage as well. Because most pipes are shared, a leak in one pipe can mean more leaks in the same pipe, only in another apartment.

This is exactly what happened to an apartment complex in Huntington Beach. One pipe was shared with two separate apartment bathrooms. Because the pipe was old, it was predisposed to pinhole leaks. Pinhole leaks occur when the minerals in the water wear away at the pipe and cause small holes. Unfortunately, these tiny holes can lead to a lot of damage.

After both apartments complained of the leak, the property manager called in a plumber. The plumber found the leaks, but insisted the property manager call SERVPRO of Yorba Linda/Brea to get the water damage removed.

They called us and we immediately sent out our Production Manager, Chris Trejo, to the site. He scoped out the damage and determined that it was a problem that could be easily helped by SERVPRO of Yorba Linda/Brea. He called out a team of our most experienced technicians to get the job started. Before any demolition, we tested for asbestos, and the results came back positive. We performed a quick asbestos abatement to ensure that the rooms would be safe for demolition, and then got to work.

Because the water damage had spread, we had to remove the drywall behind both toilets and the cabinets in the kitchen of both units. We worked quickly and efficiently, knowing the faster it got done, the happier the property manager would be. When we finished, the property manager filled out our survey, where she exclaimed that she loved SERVPRO! We hope to get her business again in the future.
